The Ethical Reputation Index and Lightspeed Research surveyed 500 18-45 year olds in the UK, the United States and Australia about the expectation regarding the influence of the Live Earth Concerts. Though this survey provides some data, it must be mentioned that the survey took place in advance. A further survey during and after the concerts was proclaimed but is not publicly available.

Live Earth Green Team, Tom Fegel et al. Live Earth Carbon Assessment & Footprint Report. Los Angeles, 2007. PDF file. Retrieved from: http://liveearth.org

This report contains a detailed summary and discussion of the environmental goals concerning the Live Earth concerts in 2007 as low-impact events, and how and to what extent they were achieved. According to this report, the Live Earth concerts were almost carbon-neutral, which was achieved by reducing energy use and waste, and using renewable energy, as well as recyclable materials. Though the Live Earth Green Team also presents ‘comparable’ events and their carbon footprints, the comparison is still difficult because the other events are of a different character, e.g. the World Cup in Germany in 2006. What is missing is a further, long-term report how far these concerts really changed people’s behavior.

Live Earth Green Event Guidelines. Retreived from:liveearth.org.
These are event guidelines, developed for the Live Earth concerts and published to encourage and guide other event managers who intend to  create a sustainable event by minimizing and reducing the environmental consequences. the Guide is divided into sections related to event planning: Communication, Purchasing, Waste, Energy, Water, Transport.

The band Radiohead is very engaged in a more eco-friendly musical industry. They published a study about the carbon footprint of their America tour 2003 &2006. I think this behavior is exemplary.
